Just like with any other product out there, there are good cages and bad cages. The tough part is telling the difference. Normally, must quality pet stores will only sell good hamster cages, however you have to check to be sure. The bad cages are normally just cheap wire with big gaps, where the pet hamsters could possible escape. I have seen gaps so big a guinea pig could get out too!

You do not want to have a bad experience with an escaped hamster. They can hide very well and you do not want your dog playing with it, since it may want to eat or kill it. Also, cats are risky too, as they may think the hamsters are mice and pounce on them.
